The Town of Hilliard moved into its New Town Hall Facility located at 15859 West CR 108 just two blocks west of its old facility on June 25, 2007 and celebrated the move with a dedication and open house on July 19, 2007, which was attended by more than 100 citizens of Nassau County. The project was a renovation of the United Methodist Church building that was in need of serious repair and by the town purchasing and renovating this building we were not only able to upgrade ourselves in preparation for future growth but also we were able to save a historical building in our community.Just off the beaten path of West County Road 108.
The Town of Hilliard has several recreation facilities made possible with financial assistance provided by the Florida Department of Environmental Protection through the Florida Recreation Development Assistance Program and services provided by the Hilliard Parks & Recreation Department the Town is able to offer recreation to its community with a variety of options and with several locations through out the Town. The Hilliard Recreation Center and Oxford Street Park with playground & swimming pool are located at 37516 Oxford Street, the Baseball Grounds and Park of North Oxford is located at 371195 Oxford Street and the D.H. “Buck” Buchanan Town Square Park with playground and picnic pavilions and Old Gym Facility is located at 27531 West Third Avenue.
April 2008 the Town completed Phase II of the Buck Buchanan Town Square Park (picnic pavilion, playground improvements, additional parking and restroom building) and Phase III of the Oxford Street Park (kiddy splash pad, sand volleyball court and restroom building). In 2009 the Town completed Phase III of the Buck Buchanan Town Square Park by installed a highly requested Skate Park behind the Town’s Old Gym Facility on Town property that was once leased to the cable television company that served as their satellite location.
The Town of Hilliard and Nassau County opened in 2006 the New Hilliard Branch Library located at 15821 West County Road 108 across from the Hilliard Middle Senior High School and is part of the Nassau County Public Library System. The project was made possible by the Florida Department of State, Division of Library and Information Services Grant Program, with matching funds and labor provided by both the Town of Hilliard and Nassau County. The project was a major undertaking for the Town and County and a great asset to the community.
The Town of Hilliard’s population is estimated at 3,000. Hilliard is the second most populated municipality in Nassau County. Hilliard is the home of the Federal Aviation Administration Facility, which is the Town’s largest employer and the County’s fifth largest employer. Hilliard is also home of the Hilliard Airpark, one of the last remaining public grass landing strips in Florida and serves many local and distant pilots.
Hilliard has two public schools, Hilliard Elementary and Hilliard Middle Senior High School. The high school teams are the Hilliard Flashes and have a long history of competition and winning.
