About Councilman Michaels

Councilman Michaels was born in 1952 in Folkston, Georgia, and his nickname is "Joe". He has lived in the Hilliard area for 70 years. He has two children and is married to his wife, Rhonda. In addition to serving on the Town Council, he is also a Florida and Georgia Realtor. Councilman Michaels favorite hobby is going fishing, which is good because he loves being in hot weather! He is passionate about faith and family. 

Councilman Michaels was elected to the Town Council in November of 2022 and began serving in January 2023. His favorite thing about living in Hilliard is the friendliness of the people. He became a Council Member because he heard Newt Gingrich in a speech say, "if you want to make changes, it has to be at the local level NOT in Washington!". Before he leaves the Council, he hopes to make Hilliard a  better place to live and bring opportunities to the citizens, while also preserving the small town qualities. One piece of advice he has for young people growing up in a small town is to "ask questions and get involved!".
